For my final, I actually decided that I will do an instructional video on how to create a motion graphics piece. I’ll talk about typography and the different fonts, color and the use of it, shape, show different animation styles and how text interacts with the different element and show some examples. Should be fun!
Shape - very geometric, for the most part it’s just boxes, squares, lines, and circles, working all together to convey the meaning of the text that is displayed on the screen and to also guide the viewer’s attention by acting as backgrounds for the text.
Color - using simple clean colors, a lot of black and white, not too many different colors except when the word “ART” appears on the screen which separates it from the rest to give it more power.
Texture/Surface - this clip is not much about texture, the backgrounds are very simple and clean, the vignette in the beginning gives it a very nice touch but then the rest of it is mostly white or black.
Size - as far as size goes, it’s interesting to notice that the text starts out small and the words keep getting bigger with the exception of the word “ART” which is significantly larger than the rest of the text in the video which makes sense because it is a video about art. It sort of reminded of the concept: “Think big, start small”

I like the opening credits for “Hawaii Five-0” because they’re fast, intriguing, and they capture the viewers attention. They tell us that this is going to be a movie about detectives and crime but there’s also going to be a lot of “hotness” to it because it’s filmed in Hawaii. Despite all the action that’s going on in the opening credits, the titles are actually very clear and easy to read - all the action slows down when an actor’s name is displayed.
Overall, I think the motion graphics are amazing - they’re exactly what you expect to see in a movie like this.
